Help us celebrate National Roofing Week by understanding the value of your roof. Protect your family or business by caring for your roof with professional roof repair, installation, cleaning, and maintenance services. Instead of celebrating National Roofing Week with balloons or cake, celebrate this June holiday by calling your local Super Roofing Pros!

What is National Roofing Week?

National Roofing Week increases awareness about the significance of roofs to every home and business and shares the good deeds of the industry. During the week of June 4th-10th, the NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) encourages members to participate in National Roofing Week by engaging with their communities and informing the public about the essential role roofs and professional roofing contractors play in every community.

Super Roofing Pros is a proud member of the NRCA, and we regularly promote the importance of proper roofing care, installation, cleaning, and repair practices. All of our roofing contractors are not only insured, but professionally certified through the standards and regulations that the NRCA have in place. We are certifiably recognized as the one of the biggest and most professional roofing companies in the Southeast!

According to the press release about the event this past June, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) sponsored congressional recognition of National Roofing Week in the Congressional Record. The recognition explains a roof’s importance as a component of a home or business and recognizes National Roofing Week and its purpose.

How Do I Celebrate National Roofing Week?

Keep up with the value of your roof! Being that National Roofing Week is celebrated in the middle of the year by all roofing contractors and professionals, keeping up with your roof should be a daily reminder. Through each season are challenges (coldest days of the year followed by heavy rain spells, heavy storms, hottest days of the year), and 12 months that sum up a calendar year, your roof goes through a lot. No matter the material of your roof, there are some roofing maintenance tips to incorporate into your home or business owning routine.

Some tips to follow throughout the year are:

  • From a safe standing point, look for visible signs of roofing damage like missing shingles.
  • Look for signs of roof leaks, such as internal water spots on your ceiling or walls.
  • Contact a professional roofing company after a surge of hail, or heavy winds.

And don’t forget to contact a roofing professional from Super Roofing Pros to safely and properly examine and perform necessary maintenance! We perform each inspection with the proper roofing tools and equipment, including providing a bird’s eye view with photos and drone technology.

What’s a Home Without A Securely Sealed Roof?

The roof of your home or business is one of the most– if not the most essential aspect of comfortable living. Without a properly secured roof, all other aspects within your home wouldn’t make sense. An old, weathered roof is the first thing that passerby notice, and the leading reason your home isn’t reaching its full potential.

There are many reasons people go years without caring for their roof, or inspecting potential damage after a rough storm. It’s important to know when something is wrong with your roof.

Factors to Consider Before Skylight Installation

  • The shape of the skylight determines how the natural light is dispersed.
  • Skylight glare can occur depending on the placement of the skylight, so choose the location accordingly.
  • Insulated glass tempered with a low-e coating helps avoid heat gain and promotes temperature regulation.
  • Homeowners residing in regions known for severe weather can still benefit from skylights, but precautions should be taken to prevent leaks or other damage, such as impact-resistant glass.
  • The construction, framing, and slant of the roof impact what type of skylight installation is possible.
  • Consider maintenance and schedule yearly inspections and professional cleaning.

With hurricane season in full swing, you need to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Check out these tips for how to prep your home for hurricane season!

Review Your Homeowner’s Insurance Policy

The important first step before performing repairs or prepping your home for hurricane season is reviewing your homeowner’s insurance policy. Find out what damages are covered. If you need to file a claim following the storm, you need to know what is and is not covered by your policy. For example, some policies require a separate hurricane deductible that is different from a standard claim. Reduce your stress and headache following the storm by making sure you’re in the best shape possible with your insurance claims!

Inspect Your Roof and Perform Any Necessary Repairs

Before hurricane season starts, it’s important to schedule a roof inspection and catch any issues. These include missing shingles, poor sealing around vents, loose caulk or nails, and damaged gutters. Any of these issues could lead to a roof leak or weaken the structural integrity of your home. We always recommend performing all the necessary roof repairs before an emergency strikes so your home is in the best shape to weather the storm.

Install Storm Shutters on Your Doors and Windows

During a hurricane, doors and windows are highly susceptible to damage from flying objects like broken tree limbs or items in your yard. Install storm shutters before hurricane season starts to minimize the risk of storm damage to your doors and windows. If you are unable to afford storm shutters, you can still protect your property by securing sheets of plywood over your doors and windows before the hurricane strikes. This will help to seal these vulnerable areas and prevent potential damage.

Secure Outdoor Furniture and Potential Projectiles

During a hurricane, flying debris significantly threatens your home’s integrity, especially windows and the roof. It can be distressing to witness your furniture, tools, or outdoor toys soaring through the air at high speeds. To safeguard your family and home from potential harm, moving all loose objects inside the garage or shed is crucial. If there are larger objects that can’t be relocated, make sure to secure them properly.

Get Your Emergency Kit Ready

During and after a hurricane, you want an emergency kit to keep your family safe and comfortable. These items will be invaluable if you lose power, end up stranded in your home, or have a sick family member. We recommend packing all of the following items and any other items your family needs to stay safe.

  • First aid items, such as aspirin, bandages, and antibiotic ointment
  • Prescription medications
  • Bottled water and non-perishable foods
  • A radio to hear local news updates
  • Flashlight(s)
  • Spare batteries
  • Matches or a lighter in a waterproof bag
  • Important documents in a waterproof bag
  • A charged cell phone and a backup battery
  • A fire extinguisher
  • Extra gasoline if you have a gas-powered generator
  • Full tank of gas in your car in case the electricity is out at your local gas station

In the Event of a Disaster, You Know Who to Call

If a hurricane strikes and you are left with significant issues with your home, like roofing damage, broken windows, or ruined siding, call the storm remediation experts at Super Roofing Pros. We’ve been in the roofing industry for decades, so we’ve seen it all when it comes to hurricane damage. We’re prepared to act fast, slowing the spread of water with roof patches and performing thorough roof inspections to get your claim filed without delay. If you’ve recently had storm damage to your home, contact us to schedule your free roof inspection!

More Tips for Hurricane Season

  • Trim your trees so they do not hit your house, but do it early enough so the trimmings can be cleared away before a hurricane. Otherwise, they could become projectiles in the storm.
  • Get some sandbags to place in front of your doors. These help keep water out of your home.
  • Consider investing in a generator in case the power goes out. This will extend the life of your refrigerated and frozen foods, allow you to charge your devices, and give you the option to run a fan or air conditioner.
  • Fill your bathtubs with water. If your power goes out, your water pump will also stop working. You can use this water for flushing the toilet and general cleaning.
  • Clean your house and wash your sheets. Sometimes it is days or weeks before your power is restored after a hurricane. A clean house and freshly washed sheets can make living in a hot, humid house a little more tolerable.

If you’ve recently had a roof replacement, but something just doesn’t feel right, we recommend checking for these five signs you’ve had a bad roof installation. Assessing the condition of your newly replaced roof quickly can help you get the coverage and repairs you deserve if a bad roofing contractor has done your home wrong.

5 Warning Signs of a Bad Roof Replacement

Your roofline is sagging.

Following your new roof installation, your roof should have a completely straight, even appearance. If you look up at your home’s roof and notice that the rooflines aren’t uniform but sagging, something is wrong. This could mean the framing was built incorrectly, or your roofing company didn’t replace the previous rotted roof deck. A sagging roof is not equipped to protect your home and will degrade much more quickly than a well-installed new roof.

You have damaged or missing shingles.

It’s natural for time, wear, and weather to cause damaged or missing shingles. However, you should not notice these issues immediately following a roofing job. Missing shingles after a new roof installation means that your roofing contractor was unprofessional or careless. If your roof’s shingles come off easily during a minor storm while your neighbor’s roofs remain intact, it is likely due to a poor roofing job.

You have mismatched shingles.

Beyond just damaged or missing shingles, take note if your shingles have a mismatched appearance following the roof replacement. Are there different shingle sizes or colors? If a roof has been properly replaced, the shingles should have a uniform size, shape, and color because they came from the same palette. Mismatched shingles are a sign your roofing contractor cut corners or reused roofing materials.

Your shingles don’t have a uniform appearance.

Beyond just the color and shape of your shingles, the entire roof should have a uniform appearance. That means no sagging areas, unusual dips or curves in the roofline, or poorly sealed vents. Any of these issues could cause water to collect on your roof and leak into your home. After a new roof installation, we recommend walking the perimeter of your home and looking for any problems.

Your new roof is leaking.

Roof leaks can occur due to incorrectly installed shingles or uneven decking, creating areas where water can pool. Leaks are devastating to not only the longevity and structure of your roof but also the interior of your home. If you notice any signs of a water leak, like stains on your walls or ceiling, you likely encountered a bad roofing job. Over time, this leakage can cause the roof deck to rot, leading to breakages or even collapse. At the first sign of a roof leak, call a professional roofing contractor to inspect your roof and help you avoid any problems.

Think Ahead Now, Your Roof Will Thank You Later

As summer winds to a close, it’s time to start thinking about seasonal roof repair services for the fall! Leaves, changing weather, more robust winds, and fallen branches all pose a significant potential threat to the current condition of your roof. Especially considering the fact that some components of your roof may have expanded, contracted, or even become thinned due to sun exposure and the summer heat.

Super Roofing Pros specializes in all things seasonal roof repair, maintenance, and installation. No matter what you may find yourself up against as seasons change, we are confident that we can handle it all. In this article, we’ll be sharing a few of our expert tips on how to best prepare for the new season. As always, feel free to reach out and give us a call if you have any additional questions or if you’d like to request a service. Our technicians are always available to serve you.

Without further ado, here’s a list of our top three best practices to prepare for fall.

1.Trim Your Trees

We know that right off the bat, this sounds like much more work, and we get where this can be incredibly time-consuming and frustrating, but trust us. This’ll save you big time in the long run! In the same way that the autumn leaves fall to the ground, they also fall on your roof! Think about how many piles of leaves are raked from your yard every season. Think about how they become compacted, wet, and heavy. As much of a hassle as it is on the ground level, imagine just how cumbersome they are sitting atop your home or business!

Trimming the trees around your property is a great way to curb a lot of the excess work incurred if you hadn’t, and it’s a great way to keep your roof intact in the long run. Piles and piles of heavy, compressed leaves overhead will weaken your roof and cause damages that could’ve otherwise been avoided.

2.Clean Your Gutters

We know what you’re thinking, “Again with all the work?” Unfortunately, yes. A few of our tips will require some up front attention to prevent any long term damages to your roof. Trust us, you’ll be happy that you put in the up-front leg work to better prepare for seasonal roof repair services.

At the end of the day, you’ll want to clean your gutters for some of the same reasons you need to trim your trees– leaves! Though beautiful, they really can cause serious issues if left unattended. Packed leaves and debris inside of your gutters can cause clogs that could lead to ice dams as the weather changes and ice begins to form. Your gutters are an important part of your roof, as they provide a valuable pathway for water and excess debris to escape. If they become clogged, your roof will ultimately retain unnecessary water and debris which can lead to mold growth, algae, and other build-up that will negatively impact your roof in the long run.

3.Schedule A Roof Inspection

Now that you’ve gotten your trees trimmed and your gutters cleaned, it’s time to have your local professionals take a look at your roof! It’s important to schedule these kinds of inspections as seasons change so that you can remain aware of any weak points, holes, dents, scrapes, or unusual growth atop your home or business. Any of these things pose a great threat risk to your property’s integrity and could send unwanted water or debris tumbling in. A thorough roof inspection will make you aware of any areas that need to be addressed before the new season sets in.

Contact Your Local Perimeter Roof Team

Your local experts here at Super Roofing Pros are here to help you every step of the way as we transition into the fall season. A Major Component You Might Be Missing To Your Roof

What exactly is drip edge? We realize this possibly sounds like a new fashion trend, but drip edge is a major component to your roof’s structure. Without a drip edge, water may end up beneath your shingles which would cause damage to various parts of the home.

Drip edge, also known as a rain drip guard or edge flashing, is an L-shaped, typically metal sheet installed along the edge of a roof. Roofers install it 3-4” under your shingles, and the edge hangs down 1” over the roof edge, and is referred to as “D-metal”.

Is Drip Edge Necessary for My Home or Business?
Drip edge works to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutter. A fascia is the longboard fixed along the lower edge of the roof, and carries all the gutters. Serving as a rain drip guard, a roof with drip edge seals the area between the shingles and fascia, preventing rain from creating water rot or mold on your home.

As of 2014, drip edge is a standard roofing component required for both new construction and re-roofing of existing homes and other structures in order to prevent damage. Because your home could experience water damage more quickly without this rain drip guard, it is important that your roofing contractor installs it along with your new roof or roof replacement. As a highly regarded roofing company throughout GA, we install high quality drip edges with all of our Super Roofing Pros projects.

What Does Drip Edge Do for Your Home?

  1. Brings House Up to Code
Because of the 2014 building code, drip edge is necessary to bring a house up to code. That is why it is an important factor to consider when thinking about roof replacement or repairing damage to your roof.
  2. Protects Against Wind-Driven Rain and Other Natural Elements
Since moisture collection is a major concern for your shingles and overall roof, a drip edge that prevents wind-driven rain is a vital addition to your roof. If water collects on the edge of the roof without the drip edge, it could cause moisture rot or mold growth. In order to prevent other costly replacements, contact Super Roofing Pros for a prompt roof inspection. With a secure drip edge installation, it helps the water run off instead of collect.

  1. Prevents Gutter Overflow
A drip edge has a dual purpose. It works to drive rain and debris towards the gutter, and it also opens to fit the pitch of the roof, so it doesn’t add to gutter overflow.
  2. Critter Control
Installing the drip edge under the shingles and over the edge of the roof, provides an excellent sealant against pests and animals. This way, critters can’t get under the shingles on your roof edge.
  3. High-Quality Drip Edge Options
There are multiple material, color, and design options available to make this rain drip guard blend seamlessly into your home’s exterior!

Material
Drip edge is typically metal so that it holds up against moisture and potential rot. Specifically, we recommend a galvanized drip edge or copper drip edge to create a thorough seal. However, aluminum is also a commonly used material, especially because it can be easily painted to match a roof or home siding.

Color
Drip edge colors for roofing include standard neutral or even bright colors. But the most common options tend to be white and black drip edge that blend into the roof.

Design
In terms of style, you can also select a vented drip edge, which is perforated along the underside. This creates better airflow along your roof edge and into your home. With all these choices, you can find the best edge to finish off your roof and securely protect it.

Our Experts Bring Your Home or Business Up To Code– Contact Us Today
